A fascinating instrument. There is quite a learning curve to make full use of its complexity and I am only at the beginning, but loving the challenge.Love the expressiveness that breath control allows.I practice several hours a day and a big help has been systematically going through the studies in Evan Tates "The book of Ewi".Which is also good for alternative fingering. Not cheap on Amazon but has made a big difference, particularly in mastering the octave rollers.I would have like a bit more content in the manual, but found quite a bit more that is relevant in downloading the manual for the Akai Ewi 5000.It will probably be about 6 months before I can really give a considered opinion, but so far I am very happy I purchased it.
I just received the AP300pro for a few days. I feel it is lighter than EWI5000 which I also have. Going from from one voice to another and also from one setting to a different one is easier and faster with the stated voice name on the screen. Practice is a breeze with built-in speakers and bluetooth available on the AP300pro. In terms of onboard voices, there are some in my opinion that are much better than the EWI5000 and some which I feel can still be improved. Overall I am satisfied with the AP300pro. It just takes a little time for me to get used to it.
Getting used to the instrument, the octave wheels need some time. Overall it is great, the sound is good, the connection to an amp nice, and I am trying to get wireless. I like the price too.
The Greaten AP300-Pro is a good solution to those who want to practice their music without disturbing neighbours. We have used it with three people who normally play other instruments, flute, clarinet and saxophone. The fingering settings are not completely identical, but are close enough to make practice on the Greaten useful, and a lot of fun.
The large range of voices available make it enjoyable to explore other sounds, and the transpose function allows for the correct pitch to play with other instruments.
The octave rollers seem to the hardest thing to master, but I am finding that it becomes easier the more I practice.
Jury is still out on this.Octave rollers are too sensitive and it is harder to control than I thought it would be,, being an accomplished saxophone player for over 50 years. I need more time to master the technique since it is NOT like playing the sax. I welcome the challenge this instrument offers, so not giving up yet.
